The Esperanza stove is improving livelihoods for women and girls in Malawi. It uses 60 % less firewood than cooking on open fires. The Esperanza cooks more efficiently and quicker, saving time. The pots are safely balanced on the stove. Women tell us that it has brought an end to burn injuries. The time savings as a result of needing to collect less firewood along with the faster cooking times save women on average 52 hours per month.
